Nice example of Dr Kaban using ultrasound to differentiate peritonsilar cellulitis vs abcess. This young, otherwise healthy patient had moderate right peritonsilar swelling which clinically suggested cellulitis or phlegmon. Endocavitary soft-tissue ultrasound proved otherwise. Dr. Kaban was able to use these images to not only localize the location and de
pth of the abscess, but also to visualize (and avoid) the carotid sheath.
